Inside a home, bed bugs have an easy to reach source of blood and tend to remain mostly localized in a bedroom, close to where their hosts sleep. Fairly concentrated numbers of these insects tend to remain in close proximity to the bed, within easy reach of the host. But in an office building a meal isn’t so easy to come by. Since bed bugs are nocturnal and most of their hosts (humans) are gone at night, their search for a meal can take them throughout an office and even throughout all floors of a building. When this happens the infestation becomes widely spread. In this environment they tend to be found one at a time or in small groups. In the early stages, workers are rarely bitten and the bugs are seldom seen. The infestation my go undetected for some time. They can also be spread to other offices or buildings occupied by the same company, being transported in files, computers, boxes and personal items. They will, eventually, out of necessity, begin to feed in the daytime and multiply. Once their numbers have increased and an infestation is suspected, locating them may be difficult, time consuming and frustrating.Treatment for bed bugs in an office building is also troublesome. One of the first methods of treatment, while the infestation is still in its early stages, is to vacuum up localized individuals and groups with a powerful, pest control vacuum and crack and crevice attachment. One thing to remember, however, is that bed bugs can hide in the deep recesses of furniture, baseboards and moldings, up inside the hollow areas of office cubicle dividers and other inaccessible areas. And bed bug eggs are glued to surfaces by the female when she lays them. Although people are badly affected by an influx of bedbugs, the medical authorities proclaim that they are not a serious health hazard. Tell that to people who are suffering from bedbugs! Bedbugs are not known to transmit disease, that is true, but they instigate paranoia and insomnia which can have far ranging consequences.Unfortunately, it is almost impossible to get rid of an infestation of bedbugs on your own. However these bugs are vulnerable to heat, so you can steam clean your house to get rid of them, but the only guaranteed method is to call in professional pest controllers. Bedbugs do not just live in homes. They live everywhere: not just in poor homes, not just in dirty houses and not only in houses even. You can pick one up from anywhere where individuals congregate, because bedbugs move about by hitching a lift on a human carrier. You can pick one up on a bus, in a taxi, at the cinema, in your doctor’s waiting room or in a hotel.

Did you know that pests can cause serious health risks as well as damage to your home? Bed bug bites cause serious itching, rashes and promote open wounds and infections from scratching. While it has been shown that bed bugs do not cause blood transmitted diseases – (yet) – they should be removed from your home immediately to prevent further spread to your belongings, pets and neighbors. Bed bugs are attracted to warm bodies, so if you have pets, there’s a good chance your pet is also being bitten.

Bed bugs are able to live in the tiniest of cracks in your bed, walls, doors and floors. Dealing with bed bugs on your own is stressful and can be almost impossible if you don’t understand their behaviors.

Other pests, like cockroaches exacerbate allergies and asthma, especially those with existing breathing problems. Mice and rats can cause damage to your home and belongings as well as carry diseases.

While there are ways to handle some pest problems on your own, there is a possibility the pests may return to your home again if you don’t handle the situation properly. The best way to ensure the fastest and most effective removal of these types of pests is to put it in the hands of a professional.

Call our help line now at the number below for your free estimate on your situation.

If you’re planning to handle pest control yourself be sure you fully understand the behaviors of the pest you’re dealing with. While you may achieve some success, the key to pest control is to prevent recurring infestations, which unfortunately is where many people fail. You may get rid of pests temporarily only to have them return weeks later. For this reason, it’s highly recommended to seek the help of a professional for immediate results and preventative measures for the future.

By postponing proper treatment, you run the risk of making the problem even worse, which can lead to serious damage to your home or even your health. Don’t risk putting it off.

How to prevent the spread of bed bugs

Bed bugs have been in the news a lot lately. They are spreading across the state and the nation. But you can help control their spread and, more importantly, you can keep them out of your home. The information presented here will help you protect yourself, your family and your home from becoming infested so you can… keep the bite out of the night!

Bed bugs live with us because they feed on human blood. You are their midnight snack! They need your blood to grow and multiply. Bed bugs can lay lots of eggs that hatch and spread quickly. Bed bugs don’t care how clean you keep your house, how much money you have or what foods you eat. All they care about is that you provide a blood meal for them to eat. Anyone can get bed bugs.

The good news is that bed bugs are not known to spread diseases, but their bites can be itchy and red and they make it hard for people to get a good night’s sleep

What to look for…
How can you know if you have bed bugs since they usually hide during the day and only bite once you’ve fallen asleep? Here are some signs you can look for:
• Look for dark, brown, black or rusty spots around their hiding places.
• Look for bed bug shells or shed skins
• Look for red, itchy bite marks on skin. However, only about half of the people who are bit by bed bugs react to the bite. So just because you don’t have any bites, doesn’t mean you don’t have bed bugs.

You might find dark spots or shed skins on your mattress, box springs, bedding or behind the headboard. As bed bugs multiply, you may start to find signs of them on other furniture or items in rooms where people sleep. They could be hiding behind the base boards or electrical outlets, in the carpeting and in clutter around the bed or in the corners of the room.

How to Avoid Hotel Bed Bugs | Pest Control

Watch more How to Get Rid of Bugs & Pests videos:

Learn how to avoid hotel bed bugs in this Howcast pest control video with expert Jeff White.

My name is Jeff White and I’m the research entomologist for bedbug central and the host of bedbug TV, I have no idea how I got into bugs and bedbugs, and here I am six years later, and having a lot of fun working with bedbugs. And I’ll be talking to you about pest control. You’ve probably seen bedbugs on the news, whether it’s in movie theatres, public transportation vehicles, or in somebody’s house. And you know bedbugs can be associated with hotel rooms and you’re about to leave for a business travel or pleasure or whatever the case may be. And so what do you need to know to avoid bedbugs in a hotel? It’s obviously a concern and there are some precautions you can take to avoid bringing bugs back with you. Now when you’re getting ready to leave for your trip, make sure you put bags inside of your suitcase. That way you can separate your clothes into launderable piles before you leave the hotel room. Another good thing to bring with you is a flashlight. You’re going to want to conduct a quick inspection of that hotel room, before you actually stay in the hotel. And so pack a flashlight and some bags, and you’re off on your travels. And so you arrive in your hotel and, obviously, does the room have bugs? Be aware that there’s always a chance that you could encounter bedbugs, whether it’s a one-star hotel or a five-star hotel. Bedbugs do not associate through filth or through, you know, uh a cheaper hotel versus a more expensive hotel. And so you wanna take the same precautions every time. So you’re in your hotel ‚Äî do a quick inspection of the bed. Look at the headboard. Look around the bed. See if you see any obvious signs of bugs. And you’re doing that to avoid staying in a problem room; a really bad infestation. But remember, no matter how good you are, if I went into that hotel room, you could easily miss a couple bugs. And so, more importantly, you wanna make sure you don’t bring them home with you. You wanna take your suitcase, and you wanna store it, while you’re staying in the hotel room, away from the bed. The bathtub is a place that a lot of people use to keep bugs off of that suitcase. And so then what you’re gonna do, is, as you’re getting ready to leave, you wanna separate your clothes into launderable piles. Put the darks in one bag, the lights in another bag, that way, when you return home, you can just quickly launder those in a hot wash, and/or a hot dry cycle. And now in terms of your suitcase, you wanna make sure you do your research. There’s a couple different ways to handle a suitcase. You could bag it up, and leave it until you travel again. There’s portable heating devices that you can buy that you can put it in, and basically a dryer, without the tumble, or you could potentially treat it as well. Again, just do research on the suitcase, and remember that you have to bring bugs into the house in order to get them, they come from one infested environment to another. So if you’re taking these simple precautions, you can avoid bringing bugs back from a hotel room you’ve recently stayed in.

Bed Bug Dry Ice Trap

FOLLOW ME ON TWITTER: @JWhiteBBTV – In this episode Jeff will discuss the recent news on a simple and easy to make bed bug monitor created by Rutgers University to monitor for bed bugs. The Bed Bug Dry Ice Trap is an easy to create monitor for bed bugs that utilizes dry ice as the attractant that hungry bed bugs are attracted to. It is true that bed bugs are attracted to the monitor and this monitor can be the most effective that we currently have available to us, but there are some things you should be aware of if you do try to create this monitor on your own (do-it-yourself). Please also be aware that even though this monitor was shown to outcompete the commercially available monitors (CDC 3000 and Nightwatch), those devices were also very effective in detecting low level bed bug infestations. First, this monitor is not intended to be used by pest control companies as there are hazards associated with dry ice that may create liabilities for pest control companies setting this monitor in clients homes. Pest control companies should consider using the commercially manufactured devices (CDC 3000 and Nightwatch) that were found to also be effective for detecting bed bugs Also, please remember that a zero-trap-catch does not necessarily mean that you do not have bed bugs. These monitors are intended to attract hungry bed bugs to them and therefore not all bed bugs are attracted to these types of monitors. In order to create this monitor you will need: a dog bowl (that can be used similarly to a Climbup device), dry ice, a thermos to place dry ice in, talcum powder, tape or sandpaper and possibly a towel. Please watch this episode for some pointers on how to construct this device properly.
